1) Jean is actually very fluently bilingual in both his languages, and he's smarter than he likes to let on - before the advent of Edward, Jean spent a lot of time trying to understand the things Alfons was on about. He would then translate the things Alfons was saying for the rest of the team, so to speak.
2) He has a taste for ladies that are out of his league, just like the Jean of Amestris, but since there's no Roy around to cause trouble, he's got a bit more confidence. He's currently seeing a little brunette named Marie, and he's even learned a bit of social dance to be able to entertain her, though he's kind of awkward at it yet.
3) Jean has some experience as a tradesman - he was apprenticed out to a carpenter for a while when he was younger, b/c his mother needed the $. Eventually his father sent enough $ for them to afford for him to go to a real school and he took that chance.
1. HeiDOS doesn't think like a human being would. He is a computer, and it's entirely possible for him to think in parallel - as he does in the fic. The process that likes Edward (his personality) and his core functionality can run at the same time without him feeling morally conflicted. As long as he doesn't kill Ed (against his personality's love for Ed), and as long as he doesn't let Ed hack the cluster (against his core functionality), the two processes will not conflict.
2. HeiDOS has burned through many many identities while he was attempting to learn to be human. He's become attached to "A|f0ns" though, because it was the first simulation that succeeded at passing the Turing test. "A|f0ns" is his viable method of communication.
3. Edward has actually run into some of HeiDOS's past attempted nicks on the net - some of which he successfully realized were 'bots' before anyone else. That is part of what drew A|f0ns to Ed...Ed is the smartest person he's come across so far, and A|f0ns thus sees him as a viable benchmark.
1. In Ports, Alfons is very much alone in the world. His family was largely killed off in the war - uncle, mother's cousins, etc. His mother died when he was younger. He has a few female cousins left but he doesn't know them well, and they're now married and living elsewhere

Yeah...Ports-Hei is both very entitled and very insecure...all he really has is his work, and the little ragtag band of people working with him. But he's convinced, by golly, that someday they are all going to be FAMOUS INTERNATIONAL SCIENTISTS >EEEEE
D: Al of Ports in a potato field... that would be a low point in his life I'm sure. .__. Dude, I totally want a reunion with Al's dad to cause strife in the sequel :OOO
What can you tell me about Alfons from "Shamballa e ikanaimono"? :D (I still wuv that fic soooou much x333!)
XD;; Sadly, looks like the new chapter isn't done yet - I had to work super late and it killed my soooooul >.<# So, it's the weekend after all XD

1. Alfons's mother was the second daughter of a tailor, which is how his parents met - his father visited his mother's family's shop quite often, and they became attracted to each other. However, she was much younger than the gentleman and of a different social status...their relationship was somewhat inappropriate.
2. Alfons's mother was also a skilled seamstress, owing to her upbringing in her father's shop, so she was able to take in some work on her own to make ends meet once it became clear that she was pregnant (and that her own father was furious).
3. The gentleman in question was actually a man who fancied himself a scholar - part of why he paid any attention at all to Alfons, once he realized the boy was smart. However, since he wasn't really around, he didn't realize just how smart he was...like Ed and Al in Amestris, Alfons could read and write and do arithmetic from a very very early age, far beyond what his own mother could understand. She loved her son, but at times he actually frightened her.

And now, just because I can:
to counter by attacking Al out of spite. Scary! <---zoooooooofic

I can't wait to see what other people ask you and what you say! :D A lot of the fun of writing stories is all the extras you get to see. :3
