Well, I finally made it home.
THE GATE
The secret revealed: the cosplay I spent all month working on was the manga version of the Truth XD Yes, I dressed up as an inanimate object. Yes, I have too much time on my hands. Anyway, I was actually reasonably proud of the gate despite all the details I didn't have time to do. It was made entirely of an aluminum superstructure, 1'-3' bars that screwed together, and the doors themselves were free-moving on hinges. The inside had many eyes and a hole with clingy tentacles. And the entire thing was on WHEELS, so when it moved around it sort of floated XD
So how was it received? Well, I think it went reasonably well, especially since you could only see the cool part from one side. A lot of people unfortunately thought I was a big black box from the sides and back (especially cause some idiot had apparently put a black box on his head and run around saying he was a robot). However, in a certain light, this gave me an advantage in scaring the shit out of people XD For example, one night as I was wheeling along, some guy comes running up and was like "HEY BOX, I LOVE YOU! I wanna give the box a hug!" So of course, I found it prudent to whip the Gate around (did I mention I could spin 180 no problem? XD) and fling the doors open. The reaction was awesome XDDDD Poor guy was like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *flee* Now THAT'S fun, right there ;) Other encounters included scaring some of the Japanese exchange students (first by being the Gate, second by apologizing for it XD), fanboys that jumped into the gate unexpectedly, packing like four cute Ed cosplayers into the Gate at the same time (hell yes, Ed sandwich *_*), and getting interviewed by media people who thought this was "performance art". WTF. At any rate, though, I had a freaking blast.
You can see a few shots of the Gate here.
