Huh? When I say "New Deal" I'm not talking about taking over any other countries nor am I talking about forcing everyone into some scare tactic and creating a trumped-up enemy so that we can have more war (wait... was that Hitler or someone else we know)?
I'm wary of the bailouts. We need to prevent this from becoming a huge power-grab by the White House and we need to prevent this from becoming a political trap for the congressional Dems. It's possible that this is part of another Shock Doctrine strategy to use a crisis to grab control.
I do agree that the government does need to get involved and we might need to put some money into this. However, I think the better idea would be to return the 0.25% transaction "Fee" tax that we had for transactions up until the 1960's. This fee is almost nothing for the average middle-class person who may make transactions on the stock market once or twice a year, if that. But for hedge fund investors who would have to pay real money to go moving their funds all over the place willy-nilly might think twice about investing in shares of nothing but fake bets. This money, though it seems small, over the period of a year could pay back this "bailout" and more.
