Today I....

It was a pretty productive day. We're still slowly working through issues with independence, attitude, etc, with everyone. I'm sure it will be ongoing. Go me, I didn't get frustrated or raise my voice today. Because I like looking back on what my day was like ( Read more... )

This is the kind of storm I love! The rolling thunder, hard rain, no scary claps of thunder or bright streaks of lightning.

I want to brainstorm unschooling ideas with you for the summer. I'd really like to get a routine down with the girls in the summer where we spend time doing worthwhile thing instead of sitting in front of the computer all day. I need to spend less time in front of the computer.

Are you guys going away this weekend?

We don't have any rain here. I can tell the storm isn't near us. I like the scary storms, big lightning streaks, listening to the weather radio to see if we have warnings, etc.

I'm trying to find a routine, too. I do have a computer routine, though. I am on in the evenings and while I eat breakfast in the morning. The rest of the day I am usually only on if I need to do school work. The kids have morning computer time and that's about it for media during the day. I'm thinking of doing some unit studies, but for now we have the area pools, we'll probably go into DC a bit and we'll do the library a lot. I'm hoping to do the library reading program. As long as I stay off the computer, I find plenty to do with the kids.. but being on the computer a lot seems to sap my motivation to do anything.

We are going camping this weekend! I am excited, our first camping trip this year. I'm a little nervous spiders will make me paranoid the whole trip, though.

Well, the rain is gone now. Maybe DD1 can fall asleep now:)

I think I'll plan some field trips with them too. Pools are good; library is an ok idea, but DD2 is a pain at the library. I like to go by myself.

I think, like you, I just need to get myself off the computer and really limit my time on here.

yay for camping!

I quit playing scrabble. That was the worst time suck. :) At the library, I don't go for myself. I put books I want on hold. I go solely for the kids. We hit the kids section, pick a billion books and I read to them at a little table for about an hour. Ariel listens a bit, and gathers more books for a bit. I'm sure the librarians hate us because we end up with a ton of books we don't check out. Afterwards, we hit the movie section to pick some videos, then the graphic novel section because Trevor is always hoping for a new Captain Raptor book. Then we might pick a chapter book. Then we check out. We spent between 1 and 2.5 hours at the library.

I think I'll have to stop playing it over the summer too.

Maybe we'll make the library into a weekly event. Not sure at this point. I'd rather read to them at my house.

LOL. We go once a week. I use the library extensively and we are often there at least picking up holds. I read to the kids everyday, for usually an hour or more, the library usually ends up being extra reading time. I read to the kids a TON.

Aw, you are such a good mom. I can't take children climbing all over me. I never read to the girls. I'm so bad:( I really need to work on that; reading to them, I mean.

Oh, if you want to do anything structured.. unit studies! I have never tried any of these but I am looking at them and thinking about buying one to check it out to see if I want to buy more for next year. I tried pulling together my own unit study. It's doable, but very time consuming.

Wow! Those are really affordable, aren't they? Maybe I will have to try one or two:) Thanks for the idea.
