[tonight, as people fall asleep, there is the tinny, high-pitched grind of a musicbox, playing a hauntingly familiar tune--you've likely never heard it before in your life, but somewhere, on some primal level, you know it. there's also a chorus of voices--high-pithced, young, children all--singing along.

There's a story still to be told
The watchful moon has risen high
It's hanging in the winter sky--
The circus, the circus, it's here at last
As we've seen this whole week past
It's fun, it's fun, from start to end
Come alone, or bring a friend

Underneath it, one might hear voices arguing--a little boy and a man, the same two voices that you've heard for the shepherd all this time.
"But you said we could keep them--"
"I know, dumpling. Don't pout. It was against the rules."
"But I really liked them--"
"We'll have others. It's all right."
When the song ends, though, there's the sound of a throat clearing, and the shepherd's voice, loud and clear.]
My dear, dear audience! It is with the heaviest of hearts that I must inform you all that the carnival has reached its end. While normally we would have gone on to proper voting, it seems we had some, ah technical difficulties with our star performers. Stage fright is a terrible thing, isn't it? Ah, well! ♥ There'll be another performance someday, I'm sure--in the meantime, congratulations to you all! I'm so proud.
Don't weep, dumplings. I'll be seeing you all soon. Dream of me. ♥
[there is a creaking sound, and there, in the air--where there is no wall, and certainly was nothing before--a door swings open. It is flanked by two stone statues caught in poses like they're about to fight--one of Emiri, and one of Raikou. It looks like it opens to an old-fashioned green room, but beyond that is darkness.]
