Post-a-day 20: Ramble, including "Einstein and Eddington"

Nov 23, 2008 00:33

General ramblings in three unrelated and starkly unconnected paragraphs:

I went shopping today for books for holidays. I came back with three books from the Twilight saga and a mini tourist guide to the area where we'll be staying. As far as the choice of fiction goes, I really enjoyed reading the Northern LIghts trilogy last year. It was easy going enough not to seem like a chore and totally gripping that I couldn't put it down. I asked some people for recommendations and I have only had two - one for Douglas Adams Trilogy in Five and one for Tao Te Ching. Douglas Adams I've already read and Tao isn't really something to last me through a whole two weeks. Still open to suggestions though. I read six books in Thailand last year, so there's still room for recommendations.

I've finished all my Moneyshot commission work and put the files in the post today. That's one less thing to worry about, and one step closer to the holiday. I can't quite believe all the things that I've been stressing about so much the past few weeks are all concluding successfully within their deadlines.

Tonight, I watched the BBC drama "Einstein and Eddington". I don't usually do TV reviews. Partly because I hardly ever watch any, and I'm certainly not normally moved to commit words to paper/screen. But in this case, I make an exception. It was a fabulously scripted, evocatively and richly shot and masterfully performed piece of screenplay. Andy Serkis as Einstein in Nazi Germany amazed me as he brought to life that complex, brilliant man with subtle nuance and intricate detail. On the other side of Europe, David Tennant as Eddington was breathtakingly emotionally rich, eloquently portraying his struggle with his feelings, his faith and his science with such raw power he broke my heart. I had no idea what to expect and what I got was wonderful beautiful lyrical television.
