Things to make and do

It's been a busy week so far, and a creative one too.

I was a little disappointed with the first rehearsal for the new play. The Artistic Director couldn't be there due to being unavoidably detained elsewhere. As a result, out of two hours total rehearsal time we used 45 minutes to read through Act 1 of 3 and receive some information about the rehearsal schedule. Then the cast were dismissed, having been relieved of the full cost of the room hire for 2 hours, and asked to leave so the crew could have a meeting about production. Not. Impressed.

On a more positive note, I have been asked to do some graphics editing work for C for his new project with a company called Rokpool. I think that he is presenting my pitch to the Project Director today, based on the brief I was given. In order to give it all a professional feel, I've finally gotten around to registering my domain, designing a logo and setting up a website. I've had the domain name in mind for quite a while, but never gotten around to registering it. I originally planned on registering it in the Cook Islands à la Nathan Barley, but didn't for two reasons. One, because it would probably only attract a particular sort of client (and put a lot of potential clients off!), and two because it costs about 100 times as much to do that rather than register just a regular .com domain. But I digress...

One track mind much?

It's still being developed, but I'm happy with it so far. All the links click through to where they should end up, I've put up some useful information and I'm pleased with the overall layout. In addition to using it to showcase my previous work and try to attract new clients, I'm going to put up a selection of my more arty shots (as in artistic, not as a euphemism for pornographic) and offer prints for sale. I've already been commissioned previously to print one of my photographs onto a box canvas that now hangs in someone's lounge, so if they were interested in having my work writ large in their living space, who's to say that someone else won't want some of my images adorning their walls? If the pitch to Rokpool is successful, I will be paid for my work for the first time ever. I've previously been paid in freebies (t-shirts, DVDs, free tickets) but this will be actual dirty money in hand. If the Project Director likes my work he's also said that he has some further work for me designing banner adverts. Fingers firmly crossed.
