033 - Harry Potter and the Standard to Which He Holds Birthdays [Accidental Voice/Action]

Jul 31, 2011 18:05

[Over by House 26, a lake has manifested in the back yard, and the forest nearby has warped itself to resemble the Forbidden Forest back at Hogwarts. Sadly, his favorite castle isn't on the other side of the trees, nor is anything about Hogwarts he actually enjoyed. Dementors are hovering about, but they're keeping their distance from the ( Read more... )

turning 19 is not all that fun, fml, event, doom and gloom etc., i've got a bad feeling about this, dementors, saving people thing fail, terrible birthday track record, no seriously fml, defense against the dark everything, horrible lake experiences, adventures in futility

[There is one potential sign of danger; the giant white shape, moving through the new area of forest.

She's taken a little bit of a liking to the semblance of the Forbidden Forest, at the very least, and is more occupied in investigating it than anyone or anything within it. As she emerges from the trees, however, her eye is first caught by the sight of the stag, then of Harry, at which point she waits for a moment to consider what to do first.]

[The giant white shape is something he doesn't recognize from the Forbidden Forest, and that has him concerned. He sets down his mug and begins walking closer to investigate. Prongs watches the Dementors briefly, but soon follows his caster.]

[Approaching? Not a human that's quite learned that it's prey, then. Moro lets out a long, low warning growl, before stepping out of the trees.]

[Harry holds up his wand defensively and doesn't step any further.]

What do you want?

I am looking at this new area of forest, boy.

[Moro doesn't know what the wand exactly is, but it's being held like a weapon so it earns the most disdainful look from her.]

[He'll keep his wand up until she stops looking at him like that. Though he's used to Luceti's animals talking, something about her voice sounds more ominous than he was expecting.]

It's not Luceti's forest. It's part of a forest from where I come from.

So it is your forest.

[She's not frightened of your stick since she doesn't know it's magical, so she simply looks at the trees, and the unfamiliar shadows swarming through it.]

Not unlike my own. Darker, without many nature spirits... but not unlike my own.

My world's, really. I don't think anyone really owns it.

[He lowers his wand a little. If they're going to talk, that's fine.]

The darkness might be the Dementors. [He gestures to one of the black-cloaked figures.] They feed on happiness and good things. There are usually a lot of magical creatures in this forest, but I don't know of any nature spirits in it.

Humans rarely see them. Especially within a weak forest.

This forest should have them, however. Spirits that the trees give birth to.

That would explain it, then. [Though he's curious.] Do spirits make a forest stronger?

Every forest has spirits. Even luceti's weak, pitiful trees have voices that I hear crying out to me when they are cut.

A strong forest gives birth to many spirits. The spirits return their respects by protecting it. Gods like myself are born solely to respect and honor the forests, as well as the Forest Spirit himself. Humans once joined us in singing praise.

[He doesn't like the sound of that.] Can Spirits survive when their trees are cut?

Oh! [He gives a little bow, though he's not exactly sure how to behave around an actual god.] Er, can other things join in the praise, other than humans and Gods? Normally this forest has centaurs who know a lot about it, but they're pretty determined not to share their secrets with humans. I'd never realized this was a weak forest.

No. They cannot. The trees provide life for them.

...Centaurs?

And this forest is small and pathetic. Even this area is only a shadow of what it could be.

... That's awful.

Centaurs look like humans on top, but their bottom halves are horses. I haven't seen any of them around, though.

Because of the lack of spirits?

Because humans do not respect it. Because the Malnosso do not respect it.

The Malnosso don't respect much of anything.

[But he has a question!]

If you don't mind me asking, how do you respect a forest? Properly, I mean.
