Not WoW but I like it

For a few years now I've been wanting a return to my gaming past, mostly fueled by fond memories of Pool of Radiance and the follow on games I used to play 20 years ago. They were fun, not too intense and complex enough to make some tasks a challenge. Then I found out about MUSHes and started playing a multiplayer game for the first time. That was cool. But no graphics or sound.

I kept looking for something that could combine both, but didn't want anything too complex, like World of Warcraft and I wanted something open-source so there would be a chance to make custom worlds. I think I've found it.

Stendhal is a multiplayer 2D graphical and text game based on the old style DnD traditions, plus it's written in Java so it works with many OS's and hardware. The engine it uses (Arianne) is on Source Forge.

It's no competition for WoW but I like it for those times I want a quick session of hack and slash. Stendhal has many vast dungeons and challenges, and it's an ongoing work. More bits added from time to time.

Worth a download and a checkout.
