Your America

You stand for the pledge, I choose to sit
Salute the flag, I’ll desecrate it
I am not a patriot, can’t you fucking see
I believe in autonomy, I believe in me

Your America is not mine, don’t waste your breath, don’t waste my time
Your America is not free and that’s not how it was meant to be

Jesus nailed on a hill, looming over me
All my life I’ve had to suffer for his humility
If he really paid for my sins, what was the amount?
Don’t want to be in his debt, let’s settle the account

Your religion is not mine, don’t waste your breath, don’t waste my time
Your savior can’t save me, from a world of inhumanity

Your artificial fun, it suits you just fine
A beer, a joint, some ludes and coke, then wash it down with wine
Look at yourself, there’s tombstones in your eyes
So when you’re fucking dead and gone, don’t act so surprised

Your idea of fun is not mine, don’t waste your breath, don’t waste my time
Your fucking drugs are not for me, I just want to live in reality

I don’t want your American way of life
I don’t need your American way of life
Fuck your American way of life
Fuck your American waste of life

Your America is not mine, don’t waste your breath, don’t waste my time
Your America is not free and that’s not how it was meant to be

(lyrics: Al Ouimet)

Notes: Written after being harassed by some drunken marines at the Purple Gator in Torrington, CT. They took offense to my Born Against shirt and a fight almost started. Some people forget that this country was founded on rebellion and a revolutionary spirit, by people who questioned what they were being told to do. Unfortunately, this dream has been perverted by flag wavers content with following the status quo.
