If ignorance isn't a horribly unfortunate personality trait, what is?
Bad decision making? priding oneself in their sketchy stories? Having a loud and obnoxious voice? Leaving all one's dishes in the communal sink so that if someone else has something to wash, they've gotta do the first persons dishes just to make room in the sink? Fake confidence? A constant sneer? Having a never-ending and oh-so-fascinating supply of stories all about oneself?
My friend told me recently that everybody at MIT can be categorized as 2 out of 3 of the following
1) Attractive (yes, even at MIT)
2) Emotionally Stable (she later toned this down a notch to 'emotionally adequate')
3) Interesting
I feel that maybe some people make such an effort to be interesting that they forget about being polite or nice. Perhaps those traits I listed aren't necessarily bad, even if they're all rolled into one person. Its not a conscious effort to be obnoxious, and no harm is really meant, but sometimes it bothers me and I know it shouldn't.
I mean I could list a ton of traits about myself that, if I met another person with them, I probably wouldn't like. Nerd-denial, stutter/lisp, cares more about sleep than psets, no sense of humor, whiny, can't tell an interesting story to save her life, cares too much about her own appearance, slow thinker, lazy, gluttonous, doesn't work well in groups ...
