color pixelation bombardment problem with Final Cut Pro

my fcp 6.0.5 is having a problem
yesterday when i copied and pasted clips from a sequence into a new sequence, when i tried to play back the footage via the Sequence or via the Canvas (but not via the Viewer) about 3 frames of the real footage would play, and then about 7 frames of color pixelation would replace the real footage, and this repeated throughout the sequence! the audio stayed fine.
this did not happen in my original sequence, but today it is!
when i export the sequence, the exported clip does NOT show these pixelations, and they play normally.
so it seems like the original footage has not been corrupted-- but it makes it frustrating to edit!
i've tried RENDERING to no avail, and restarting fcp to no avail.
any thoughts would be appreciated!
