So, tonight was good. I crewed Anything Goes. It's fine although I hate being backstage. I was sitting with Andrew and Jessica (the ASM) during one of the big dance numbers and Jess was dancing because she had to learn all the numbers when people were absent to be able to teach them and Andrew and I were just talking and we looked at eachother and both sighed because he's an actor but he is on crew for this show too. I kinda smiled and said "I hate being backstage" and he nodded and said "Well, at least you know that all you can do is act." And I thought how true that was. They tell us practically every day “If you can do something besides act, do it.” Maybe one day I will be able to but I can’t yet. That’s nice to know. That I’m confident in this. At least for the moment.
After the show I went with my friend Megan and a couple of her non-theatre friends to coffee at Panther City. I had the MOST amazing mocha ever. It was especially good because I haven’t had any type of coffee since Christmas break. The starbucks on campus is always awful because it’s not actual starbucks it’s just starbucks coffee drinks made by our campus food people. And we had amazing conversation about nothing and art and life and normal people things. It’s nice to just sit and talk. I need to hang out with people like this more often.
I have been reading quite a lot more which gives me similar satisfaction. I’ve read a ton of plays lately and a couple other silly books as well. Reading plays is good in so many ways. I feel like I have a better grasp in conversations during theatre because I understand more show references and I can tell that the people who are respected here in the theatre program have a vast knowledge of plays and playwrights. Working on it. I’ve watched movies too, real ones and fun kid ones. Oh! And I’ve recently gotten into Sodoku. Since my classes this semester require very little thinking or effort I had to get stimulation somewhere. Reading is good but I needed something to twist my thinking a different way too. I was scared of the numbers at first but I’m actually getting a lot better at them.
I’m memorizing for a one act I’m going to be in at the end of the semester and I’m pretty excited for it. It’s a really fun cast and it’s an interesting script. Called Double Take, there are 2 female characters and 2 male characters and there is an “inner” and “outer” of each. The outer being the actual character and the inner representing the characters thoughts. I’m the outer women, which surprised me but I like it. The guy and the girl are friends and sleep together for the first time and then the act shows the awkward next morning. It’s a cute and slightly sad script. The inner’s want to badly to be together but the outers, because of insecurities and such just don’t know how to tell each other. Good stuff. Oh yeah, and I have to wear just a t-shirt and underwear. And be in a bed with the 3 other actors also just wearing underwear. Good thing they are all fun people. There should be many laughs in rehearsal.
So, I started this entry with the part below but then ended up writing more than I intended too. I guess I just needed to document what was happening in my life for my sake.
I just finished watching "Jonah the VeggieTales Movie" and it was wonderfully cute. After it ended I let the credits play while I was checking email and it went through a couple of the movie songs AND THEN it played this brilliant tune.
~~~~~~~~
This is the song that runs under the credits
These are the credits, so this is where it goes
Has nothing to do with the movie so we’ll say
Hey! Hey! Hey hey hey hey hey hey
There once was a song, that ran under the credits
That went with the movie, but this is not that song
Has nothing to do with the movie so we’ll say
Hey! Hey! Hey hey hey hey hey hey
Wouldn’t it be nice if the song under the credits,
Had something to do with the movie you just saw
But that’s not the case so for now we’ll have to say
Hey! Hey! Hey hey hey hey hey hey
There should be a rule that the song under the credits
Remotely pertains to the movie’s basic plot
That rule has not been made so for now we’ll have to say
Hey! Hey! Hey hey hey hey hey hey cont...
Hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey
hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey
hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey
hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey.
Lallalala Oolalla lala
*dialogue over music*
I'm a little winded. Where are you going? I don't think we're done yet!
I'm going to go home and take a nap.
Come on we have contractional obligation to finish the song! They paid for a full 79 minutes of entertainment pal so get back in the booth!
Wake me up for the prequel.
Oh come on, we were just starting to have fun! Hahhah hey! What? Oh man, I need a tums.
What? What ? Are we done? You mean thats it? hey hey ho ho ho hey...if you want me I'll be on the porch.
Really, this is a brilliant song. I laughed out loud for a good five minutes. Seriously? I can't believe that played at the end of the movie. It's really too bad that young children probably don't appreciate how amazing this is.
Life is well tonight.
