when it rains, it pours... and it's been pouring a lot lately

Good grief. My car... sucks. The Pink Wonder is losing her glory. A series of break-ins and theft has left her a broken, ghetto shell of a car. She's just crapping out on me. Last night I started her up and the brake light and battery light came on. Never a good sign. So, I called my dad and took my car to GoodYear today. They tell me I need a new alternator. Great. Not really wanting to know, I asked about the brake light and didn't really get an answer. So I called my dad again, he talks to the mechanics, gives them the go-ahead and told me to put it on the Discover card. The mechanic comes out about a half an hour later wanting Dad's phone number. He calls him, then comes out and informs me that they don't know why the brake light is on, but it could be Pinky's master cylinder. Since the brakes seem to be working fine, he's not going to worry about that today. He said he'd order the part, and told me that if the light didn't go off, to bring the car back in tomorrow and he'd replace the cylinder.

I think I understand how Paula Poundstone felt when she said "It's a great car, but it breaks down all the time. I figured someday it was going to break down I'd have a break down right after it. They'd find me on the side of the road yelling at it like I was it's parent. 'Do you have any idea how much money I've put into you this month, alone? I give and give and give to you, could you maybe take me another 2, 3 more miles... oh no. Look at all the other cars, they're moving. Have to have brake shoes, I buy them for you, you won't wear them.'"

Well, $327.96 later, The Pink Wonder has a new alternator, and is restored to all her prior hubcap-less glory. :-P
