I might be shaping into an art historian. Temple is excellent. Lonely research and a public job foil each other. Tuesday, I gave my first serious presentation, which addressed the west front of Wells cathedral. Liturgy is the most telling consideration to bridge form and meaning; still consider Scriptures and sermons, nonarchitectural sources, and building typology. Westworks and triumphal arches need their due as types. Eschatology and anagogy. Next up: Agrippa in Rome and Athens. Then: the c13 cloister of St-Genis-des-Fontaines.

I doubt anyone reads this, but it's nice to leave a small cyber record. Someday we might be able to download our brains and nervous systems onto the internet; if I'm still alive, how would it feel to meet words I typed with fingers? Hegel describes a teleology of art wherein the Idea grows more self-aware until it faces itself in philosophy. Benjamin says mechanical reproduction severs art from aura and twines it to politics. I can't decide whether digitizing people is teleology or folly.
