Hearing all the negativity towards House makes me feel all the more justified in my anger that Lie to Me wasn't picked up, even though it doesn't help us at all now. Don't ever feel you can't spam about things like that; even though I don't watch the show anymore, I do find it interesting to see how people feel about things.
I'm at 40k and I've hit a brick wall. I'm trying to write the first of four of the pivotal final chapters and it's proving incredibly difficult to get it to feel right. The cancellation is both good and bad for me; good in the sense that I don't need to rush now to get it finished before season 4 starts (even though ideally I'd like it finished and posted by September anyway because it's taken over enough of my life already!); bad in every other way, including having given me writer's block. I was speeding through it before the news hit, now I keep worrying that it won't be the conclusion the show deserves in every way. I keep thinking of plot points that I should have brought up earlier, too, so I need to work those in somehow. Sorry, probably more than you wanted to know!
Actually, I have a question for you. What's your take on Gillian and violence? If she knew she was facing a life or death situation, do you think she would plan to use violence, or do you think she'd ignore the possibility of it until it happened and then use it if she really had to? Vague, I know, but if that made any sense I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I'll try to watch it and I'll definitely let you know my thoughts if I do!
Let's use our rage and turn it into writing our fics. At least that's what I'm going to attempt to do.
Oh man, 40k! Wow! That is AWESOME! I feel the same about writer's block. The cancelation has definitely not inspired me. Maybe if you don't think so hard about how well you want it to be and just let it flow, it'll get you going again? I know when I put the pressure on myself, I end up making it crap, but once I just let go and forget about it all, it'll end up coming to me. Then you can always go back and edit if you don't like it on the second or third reading. Let yourself get absorbed into the moment and the right ending will come to you. I know, easier said than done. :P I love hearing about your writing and if it helps to just vent about it, go right ahead! If anything, I'd love to help you. ♥
Oooh. Gillian and violence. I never saw her as the violent type, but if it came right down to it, she'd do whatever it'd take to save those she loved. Remember in Honey when the crazed gunman demanded that he see the guy that shot his wife and Gillian demanded that they give him just that if it meant getting Cal away and to safety? She'd use violence if she'd have to. If it were for self-defense, she definitely would. But if she were to PLAN it? Hmm. That's a hard one. I've tried thinking long and hard about this (which is why it took me a while to respond) and it might depend on the situation. I can see her finding something in the spur of the moment like a pipe or something to fend someone away, but I can also see her bringing maybe a knife (or maybe pepperspray would be a more realistic choice, but I believe she'd always have that on her as a single woman) if she knew she was going into a dangerous part of town on purpose to make a deal or something. She does think ahead, but she'd only use violence and her weapons if she ultimately had no choice. She is resourceful after all. We did see her use a frying pan to whack a kid over the head with it when they broke into her house in Delinquent.
But depending on the situation, I can also see her ignoring the possibility. If she were in denial about how dangerous a situation was, she wouldn't be prepared, she'd be left scrambling to find something nearby and work with what she has.
I hope that kind of helped. I know that was lengthy and a bit confusing. If you build the situation right, you can have just about any reaction come about realistically. I suppose it'd be safer to say depending on what her state of mind is right at that moment is proportional to her level of preparation.
If you still have questions about this or anything else, feel free to ask. I love discussing this with you. :D
