So, uh, Season 2 is over? Really? It ended with that?!
As far as season finales go, that was the WORST I've seen. I've seen plenty of strange, weird, amazing, pathetic, confusing finales. But I think I'll have to say that this pretty much tops the cake. REALLY, LTM WRITERS? HOW DID THIS GET AWAY FOR THE FINALE? FINALES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE EPIC. SUPPOSED TO KEEP THE VIEWERS COMING BACK. NOT WANT THEM TO DISAPPEAR FOREVER AND PRETEND LIKE THIS ENTIRE SEASON NEVER HAPPENED. AND SOMETIMES, FINALES ARE THE ONLY THING THAT SAVES A SHOW. I AM NOT JOKING. I ALMOST STOPPED WATCHING HOUSE IF THE S6 FINALE WAS NOT AS AMAZING AS IT WAS. WHAT HAPPENED TO THOUGHTFUL ENDINGS? OR HAPPY ENDINGS? OR EVEN TRAGIC ENDINGS? OR CLIFFHANGER ENDINGS?
Actually, I'm glad this didn't really end on a cliffhanger. I hate cliffhanger endings. Too many shows rely on that and it makes me think it of bad writing. I hated when CSI:NY started doing it. If it's a show that does not depend on cliffhangers, do not do it just because it's a finale. That is lame.
But I digress.
FINALES. ONE OF THE WORST. I THOUGHT THE HOUSE S3 FINALE WAS PRETTY BAD OUT OF ALL THE SEASONS, BUT THIS... WOW. I can't. I just cannot believe that this was the finale. I'm shocked. Maybe I shouldn't be? But with how amazing the second half of the season, I thought it'd be much better. Then again, after I found out about Reynolds and some of the promos, I had super low expectations. But the fact that it was worse than my already low expectations is pretty bad.
Maybe I'm just bitter about this ep. I dunno. Maybe I'll watch it again and change my mind. I am basing this off my first viewing.
So, things I liked:
- Cal caught Em and Rick. THE FACT THAT RICK WAS STILL THE BF AND THERE AND SPOKE MADE IT AMAZING.
- The awkward car ride. Hee.
- The awkward explanation in Cal's study about how Rick loves Em and Cal analyzing the grammar before he goes off to rope Foster into this family drama.
- The fact that he does go and rope Foster into all this family drama is priceless. At first I thought that maybe, MAYBE, he was pulling Foster into all of this as a distraction from the case, but then when they went to his house and she was telling him off a bit and Foster was involved in the case made me negate that thought. Cal genuinely wanted her help as a friend and a female presence because he just plain sucks at these things.
- Loved that Cal walked all around the office with Torres chasing after him like a little puppy, looking for Foster and Loker. Hee. And no one answers him until Anna comes back and says that the two went and tried to head off Hackman.
- Did you guys catch what Foster did? She and Loker were like ninjas! Ninja!Foster is back! She was trying to be all stealthy and anticipating Hackman's moves, ends up losing him, but she comes back with a cappuccino with too much foam! Hee. HOW AWESOME IS SHE? I bet right after they lose Hackman, Foster turns to Loker and asks, "Coffee? I could use some."
He responds, "Sure, why not. You buying?"
"No, Lightman is." And she pulls out the company credit card. "We did try to chase after a guy who brought a gun in the office again, and said he was responsible for the death of one of Lightman's friends. We're on the job."
"Works for me. You're the boss, Foster."
"Don't you forget."
MAYBE I SHOULD JUST RE-WRITE THE ENTIRE EP. OR WRITE SOMETHING THAT FILLS IN ALL THE MISSING SCENES OR SCENES-THAT-SHOULD'VE-BEEN-IN-THE-EP-BUT-WEREN'T-BECAUSE-THE-WRITERS-FAIL KIND OF FIC. HMM.
- Foster, just because she is love and she's gorgeous and she was in the ep but had hardly any screentime.
- Torres walking Cal through that little interrogation while she was following him around.
- Torres and Reynolds when they're trying to see Mr. Cook and Torres totally reads that guy's face and pwns. Yes.
- Loker! And all the files strewn out on the floor, marked with post-its and he puts to the stuff from the shredder together. Pretty much the fact that he did all that hard work. I just hate that he didn't really get rewarded for it. :( Even if he's not my favorite character, he did put a lot of effort into that and I feel a bit for him.
- The pepperspray! OMG. CAL GOT GILLIAN PEPPERSPRAY A WEEK AGO (which should've been the 'Beat the Devil' ep, btw) TO USE AS PROTECTION (no, not that kind of protection. get your minds out of the gutter). IS IT BAD THAT THE FIRST THING I THOUGHT OF WAS, 'OMG, TONY WOULD'VE DONE THAT FOR PEPPER. ESPECIALLY SINCE IT'D BE FUNNY WITH PEPPER HAVING... PEPPERSPRAY. HA. BAD PUNS, TOTALLY TONY STARK' AND THEN I FLAILED AT CAL BEING ALL PROTECTIVE. YES, I THINK ABOUT IRON MAN WHILE WATCHING LTM. SHUT UP.
- Gillian lecturing Cal. Or starting to until he finds the door unlocked. The whole, "You should've talked to Emily about this when she was 15! My dad talked to me about when I was 14." I wish they continued that convo and Cal teasing her and asking when she did decide to lose her virginity and finding Emily making dinner and having an awesomely awkward convo about sex. Except that didn't happen. But at least Gillian got to use her science against the cops, which was nice.
- Gillian trying to change the subject and comfort Emily by asking what was for dinner and putting her hand on her shoulder. Then Cal responding, "Roast Emily, to go." LOL. CAL.
- Btw, right when I said to my bro that Em should be in danger for this finale to be more interesting, we found out that someone broke into Cal's home and Em's not there. Then I thought, no, this is boring because Em won't be there, she'll probably be at Rick's place or out by happenstance. Then BAM. EM'S AT THE EFFING STORE TO PICK UP OREGANO. Can we put Em in REAL danger? This fake!danger is killing me. They already pulled it in "Pied Piper," don't do it again. You can't tell the same joke twice, guys. Come on. Does this make me a bad person? Because I really want Emily! in! Danger! just like Foster! in! Danger! because I want Cal to lose his objectivity and fly off the rails and watch him lose and then have the rest of the team pick up and save the day. ESPECIALLY WITH REYNOLDS THERE. OMG.
(okay, i was baking cookies while writing this and now i have to scrape them off the pan. idk why i have to say this, but i do. i thought it'd be the only thing interesting about this. :P)
- The fact that Foster and Cal were at the hospital and Foster stayed behind. Yes. I think I may write a fic about that. Because despite my obvious shipping tendencies toward Foster/Reynolds (and Cal/Gillian, duh), they are good friends. Both there for each other when they need to, and Reynolds' little crush on Gillian is just adorable. ;alskdjfa;lskdfja;sdlk I think I ship Foster/Reynolds more now hahahaha. If that's possible. Multi-shipping, guys. Don't hate.
- The Cal/Gillian scene outside of Reynolds' room. The quiet way they both stare and Gillian asks about Julie or whatever the journalist's name was. It didn't sound like Cal and Julie were in a relationship, but more that Julie wanted something more and Cal was reluctant. Although that pic he held up at the end seemed like they were more, but then again, it could just be two friends having a good time and nothing more on Cal's part at least. Strange how there was ZERO mention of her beforehand. -_-
- Bernard coming back. Good little continuity there.
- Reynolds being disappointed in Cal's response but still following him and making sure that he's all right anyway. SEE, WHAT AN AWESOME FRIEND HE IS. And the fact that Cal felt responsible for Reynolds' injury because Reynolds IS family now. They can't just up and leave him.
- The fact that Reynolds IS NOT DEAD. YES. AND NOT IN A COMA. At least he's still alive. Critical but alive. Of course they kept him alive just in case they *need* him. -_- You know, you could've still kept him on board just NOT WITH THE FBI. ;aslkdfjasdighawroigha;sdlfj I already did that rant.
- The fact that Em duped her dad. She had sex two boyfriends ago? Wasn't she all, 'I WON'T HAVE SEX OKAY' at the beg of the season? Or she just played that part well in making her parents think she wasn't having or had sex.
- Cal's awkward lecture and how he stops in between saying that she should give him a break because he's making this up as he goes and it's awkward lol. I bet he would've done anything to wish for Foster to appear right next to him and take over hahahha. Aww, I want a fic where Cal tells Foster about all this and he's still all mixed up about it.
So it sounds like I liked a lot of this ep, but it was the little details that I expanded on quite a bit. Really, it wasn't that amazing.
Things I didn't like:
- The entire case. I was confused. Too many characters with too many hidden agendas. Usually I like the whole spy thing, with the many betrayals but this time it was too confusing to keep up on top of wanting more of the family drama.
- The guest cast was nice. I don't remember the names, but they've been in like everything so it was nice.
- Wallowski does not seem like an interesting character. A cop with an attitude? Wow. That's new. Whoopdeedoo.
- NO FAMILY DINNER. BOO.
- Hardly any Foster or the rest of the team for that matter.
- REYNOLDS NOT BEING IN THE SHOW ANYMORE. LADKSJF;ALSKDFJA;SLDF WE BETTER GET AN UPDATE ON HIS SITUATION IN THE PREMIERE THOUGH. AND I WANT FOSTER TO SAY, 'I WISH REYNOLDS WERE HERE. IT'D MAKE IT SO MUCH EASIER.' JUST TO RUB IT IN.
- I LOL'd at the fact the billionaire was trying to get back at the cop that stole his fiancee. Wow. That storyline could've been better. Nice reversal in finding out that Cook set it all up, but honestly, not given the best delivery. Oh well. I was thinking, 'What if Tony Stark did that?' Then decided Tony would not be so cowardly like that and take revenge on a guy 20 years later. Only House would do that a la Von Lieberman aka Weber. Seriously? That's some grudge.
- Zero mention of that Julie woman before. Boring. Don't care. Maybe she was a great journalist but you did not make me care about single one of these characters, show. Only Reynolds because he's been around for an entire season and I love him dearly, then you go and shoot him three times and take him out of the show. Yeah. If I were the mean kind, I'd give you the finger, but that's not a proper way to respect Reynolds.
DO BETTER NEXT SEASON, LTM. DO BETTER. I EXPECT BETTER. BECAUSE THIS FINALE DOES NOT GIVE ME HOPE. YOU MIGHT AS WELL HAVE ENDED ON 'EXPOSED'. DO NOT GIVE ME LAME, HALF-HEARTED FINALES LIKE THAT EVER AGAIN. I WILL SERIOUSLY CONSIDER NOT WATCHING YOU OR HELPING YOU GET A BACK 9 IF YOU DO NOT IMPRESS ME IN THE FIRST TWO EPS OF SEASON 3. I AM SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED. NEVER AGAIN.
SPOILER FROM THE PROMO FOR NEXT SEASON:
"I remember hiring you, but I don't remember marrying you." Cal to Gillian as she blocks the doorway. YES. THIS LINE. NEED TO KNOW CONTEXT.
SHOW, YOU CANNOT KEEP TEASING US WITH THIS, AND THEN GIVE US CRAP ABOUT THE CAL/GILLIAN RELATIONSHIP. I DON'T CARE IF YOU SAY IT IS BASED ON LOVE AND RESPECT AND WHILE PART OF ME IS HAPPY YOU SAY THAT, THERE ISN'T ENOUGH PROOF YET. WHERE IS THE RESPECT? AND WHILE WE'RE AT IT, WHY DOES CAL NOT SEEM TO RESPECT EVERYONE ELSE AND HIMSELF? A;LSKDJFA;LDKSFJL;SDKF YOU ARE NOT HELPING BY MAKING EVERY WOMAN WHO GUEST STARS ON THIS SHOW GO AFTER EFFING CAL. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. COME UP WITH BETTER WAYS TO EXPLORE HIS CHARACTER, PLEASE.
