Chris: You'd better pray I never get out.
Chris is taken prisoner by a corrupt sheriff who holds men prisoner falsely for ransom. Chris is a badass and has a rough time of it accordingly. Meanwhile all the boys go on a rampage looking for their missing friend. They finally narrow it down to Jericho where Ezra gets the deputy drunk and they get the story out of him. The boys take the sheriff hostage and head out to save Chris, who having won the admiration of the inmates and ire of the warden has been thrown in the hole again and has a rattler dumped on him. The warden, not realizing that Chris is in badass mode, gets too close and Chris kills him with the frickin' rattle snake. The boys storm the prison and order is restored.
I enjoy Chris a lot in this episode. While he's obviously supposed to be seen as a "good" person in this one, he's also a hardass. He threatens to gut another inmate who spits in his food and picks a fight with the Lawless brothers. Chris is one dang stubborn, tough man. That's what makes him pretty awesome though. I think he was probably "nice" at one point in time, but too much has happened to him.
Meanwhile I love Ezra being "subtle" which really involves him getting the deputy drunk. His shrug when Vin questions him about the matter is priceless. He also gets a deliciously wicked smile when the sheriff accuses them all of being conned by Vin. Con Ezra? Never. I also love Ezra's coiled dangerousness too. It's something you don't see as often, but I really think Ezra might be second only to Chris is coldblooded lethalness. The whole time Josiah is being threatened by Jessie and they're minutes from being shot at, Ezra has his foot up leaning against the tie rail. They're about to be in a gun fight and he's leaning against the tie rail. There's no doubt that at the first sign of anything he'll explode into action, but that casual dangerousness does it for me. Also his politely asking the guards to surrender is trademark Ezra.
Then there's Vin's sexy leg holster. I sort of love that thing.
All the boys supporting each other is also evident in this episode, from Nathan and Ezra letting Buck terrorize the store owner to all of them drawing down on the sheriff when he threatens Vin. The boys are a solidified group in this one, picking on each other and closing rank when one of them is threatened.
