Still watching Count of Monte Cristo. What I can't figure is why every version except the anime one fails to mention Haydee. She's actually a very important part of the story, as her family's mistreatment at the hands of Fernand is what actually condemns him in the end. Most movie versions of the novel condemn Fernand only with betraying Dantes. They seem to think that that is enough to make him unforgivable. I don't believe it is (and I don't think Dumas did either, as he didn't have to add Haydee). Villefort is very easy to condemn. He's pompous and arrogant and merciless. Danglars is stupid and greedy. Fernand is simply opportunistic until we get into the whole issue with his betrayal of Haydee's family, where we see that it is Fernand's character that is trecherous. This is why I have trouble with movies leaving her out.
