When
dreamybritactor brought up my favorite scene in North & South, I knew I had to do this post.
I'll probably keep this down to only my very favorites. I'm trying to prove that while my heart is not entirely made of stone, I don't want to go overboard. So, in no particular order...

I don't think any actor but Armitage could have done that "look back at me" line and made it work. He just about burns himself off the screen he's so intense. Anyone else would have made it sound creepy or demanding, but he made it sound so broken and intense. Armitage really is a good actor. His Thornton is no less proud when he utters that line, just desperately in love. I think anyone else would have made it sound like begging or a demand. Armitage made it incredible though.
Cathy was a coniving bitch and she and Heathcliff would have made the couple in Dangerous Liasons look like saints, but there was no doubt that they were kindred souls.
I always saw Laurie and Jo as equals in mind and temperment, which is why I was disappointed when Alcott went the way of "woman marries older, more mature man who guides her (albeit benevolently)" instead of he true meeting of minds I always thought Laurie and Jo were.
