Not A Tame Lion, but He's Good

Saw The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe last night. While it's not like LOTR at all (that would be like comparing apples and oranges), I thought it was wonderful. I haven't liked a movie that much on first viewing in a LONG time.

The CGI animals were incredible. It honestly felt like they were legitimate actors in the movie. I have to say I got chills at the first charge of the battle and I also got chills when Aslan showed up there. Very different in the way that I've never seen a movie where it looked like animals were realistically fighting a battle. The griffins attacking the army and the use of the phoenix as a firebomb were spectacular. There was also the moment when the armies first slammed into each other that took my breath away.

Aslan was also wonderful. Remembering the terrifying BBC version of him, this Aslan looked like a real lion, right down to an occassionally twitching ear. Liam Neeson was an inspired choice for the voice too. His commanding, but friendly and fathering voice was perfect. His voice is "not tame, but good".

Tilda Swinton was also imposing and elegant as always. She looked otherworldly and made a wonderful White Witch. The Pevensie children were all good as well.

Excellent movie and I can't say enough about how cute William Moseley is. Best friend leaned over to me in the middle of the movie and goes "Peter...is he jailbait?" No, not jailbait, praise be. I'm a sucker for blondes with strong jawlines and nice lips, all of which he has in abundance. He's a looker now in that young, not filled out way. Hopefully he'll go the way of the Jensen.
