Finished Prince of Dogs by Kate Elliott, the second in her Crown of Stars series. Excellent fantasy. It follows the intertwining stories of several characters set in a medievalish backdrop. In this book, Sanglant, the illegitimate son of the king, is held captive by the brutal race of Eika who treat him like one of their battle dogs, collar and all. Liath, Sanglant's lover, is desperate to keep herself away from the man who abused her when she was a slave. Alain, a young lord, was chosen by the Lady of Battles to fight with her as his blessed patron even though he is no fighter. Fifth Son, an Eika prince, plans his own strategy to take over the Eika throne and defeat the humans even though he has a connection and tentative friendship with Alain. It's a huge, epic book and extremely well written for a fantasy. Highly recommended.
