A Little Context Might Be Helpful

Jul 15, 2014 09:31

The following is an exact quote of something Meg said this morning:
"I think the stuff that goes here should go here, and the stuff that doesn't go here should go here."

Without a visual reference and context, that was completely meaningless. So my readers will know what she was talking about, I will provide the context. This morning, Meg suggested that we needed to clean the car. Just after I got out, she leaned toward the front seat and made the above statement.

Knowing that she was talking about cleaning out the car, I knew what she meant by "the stuff that goes here" and "the stuff that doesn't go here," but without seeing her hands, I didn't know for sure where she meant by the second and fourth "here". Upon checking with her, I found that what she meant was, "Things that will stay in the car need to go on the passenger seat, and things that need to go in the house should go on the driver's seat."
