So, I've been thinking about the death of Tim Russert and one thought is stuck in my mind ...
While I think it was sweet and all that Tom Brokaw was able to immediately announce the death on the air ... didn't he retire like 3 years ago? Why was he so immediately available to go on the air in a crisp suit to announce the breaking news?
Did he finally run out of generations to write about? Is he so bored with retirement that he's wandering around NBC in an ironed suit - just in case some shit goes down? Is Tom Brokaw now like that last guest at your party. The dude who never gets the the hint that it's time to go home, no matter how many times you dramatically yawn?
All I'm saying is ... if I retired from McDonalds three years ago, I wouldn't still be hanging around the Happy Meals with a paper hat on my head.
So, despite my Lakers choking hella' in the finals, this has been a hell of an NBA season. On top of the Lakers, you had the Hornets holding things down, the never-boring drama that was the Knicks ... hell, even the Hawks had a good year. This was a solid "changing of the guard" year and with Portland getting ready to make a run - next year is going to be pretty sweet too.
And it's hard to be too upset about the Lakers losing the finals. They were just too young for the Finals stage. Hopefully, they can learn from this and will be better w/Bynum back next year. And you have to be a basketball fan with a heart of stone to not love the fact that KG finaly has that ring.
Of course, my feelings my have been a little stronger if I actually saw Game 6. However, I was spending some quality time with The Legendary Roots Crew - who put on one of the best shows that I've seen in a long time. My two favorite parts of the The Roots show?
  1. A version of Dylan's Masters of War (dedicated to all the republicans in the house) that was so powerful, I had tears in my eyes.
  2. The fact that they now have a Tuba player named ... wait for it ... Tuba Gooding Jr.
