Drop the Charges Against Bay Area Anarchist, Dee Allen

HELP DEE ALLEN BEAT THE BOGUS CHARGES!

Here's what you can do to help poet, anarchist and civic activist Dee Allen fight the bogus charges against him.

WHAT'S GOING ON!

Dee Allen is facing bogus charges including battery of a police officer (for allegedly spitting at an officer) as a consequence of his participation in a counter-protest against the minute"men" on July 30. On August 7th, 2008, Dee appeared in court. After a lengthy pretrial conference between the judge and attorneys, Dee entered his plea of not guilty.

It's outrageous and maddening that Dee should even be put in such a position. This matter need not -- and should not -- go to trial.

The misdemeanors in this case are punishable by $2000 and/or 6 mos. in jail. Not to mention the fact that they create a police record.

CALL IN YOUR SUPPORT!

Here's what to do to support Dee Allen during this time of litigation:

Dee's next court date will be on November 7th, at 9:00 AM, at 850 Bryant, Department 13.
His case number is 2378915, and the person handling his case is Megan T. Burns, Deputy Public Defender, (415) 575-8861, megan.burns@sfgov.org.

Call in to voice your support for Dee Allen (full name: Donnell Lamont Allen), and offer to help Dee's case by serving as a character witness for him.

Also, contact Greg Barge, director of the misdemeanor division, (415) 553-1266, and state that the charges should be dropped against him. The number to the D.A.'s office for general inquiries is (415) 553-1751.

Voice your outrage over the fact that two cops can allege whatever they want in a criminal complaint and can impose such troubles on a upright citizen who has been unjustly singled out as a target for ongoing harassment.

Jeff Adachi is the San Francisco Public Defender; ask him to intervene directly on Dee's behalf. His email is jeff.adachi@sfgov.org, or call (415) 553-1671 for general inquiries at the SF Public Defender's office.

MORE SUPPORT THROUGH EMAIL!

Here's contact info for sympathetic police commissioners submitted by an anti-police brutality organizer. Like with the Public Defender's and District Attorney's offices, demand that the two Minuteman Project counter protest-related [false] misdemeanor charges be dropped. Also, if possible, be a character witness for Dee Allen.

Contacts to Jeff and police commissioners on our side: jeff.adachi@sfgov.org, davidfcampos@yahoo.com, theresasparks@aol.com, pdejesus@kazanlaw.com.

WRITE A LETTER TO THE DA OFFICE!

Write a letter addressed to the D.A.'s office attesting to Dee's character. State how you know Dee, and why you love/ value/ respect him. Again, demand that the charges against him be dropped. Hilary Ronen of La Raza Centro Legal is currently collecting the letters:
