The Decemberists. Glasgow. So fucking awesome. I can't even handle it. At all.
Who in that audience did not want to have Colin Meloy's babies?
One of the best shows I've ever been to. (Doesn't quite top Sonny Rollins, but that's a whole different ball partk) We got up almost right at the front where it was squishy and smelly, we did mid-show calisthenics and everyone participated... It reminded me of a kids' concert except that everyone was so into it, instead of rolling their eyes and thinking they were too old for it.
I'm pretty much in love with Jenny Conlee. And the rest of the band, but you know. The (new?)Viola player has an alto clef tatooed on her upper arm.
The opening band was laughably bad to the point that I almost wondered if they were being ironic... still not sure about this, but I'm going to stick with they were just bad. Possibly stoned. Both.
Glasgow itself is kind of ugly and bizarre. It's true what they say about the Glaswegian accent: totally incomprehensible. Saturday night we went out and ended up in a tiny basement bar listening to a David Bowie tribute band called the Spiders on Mars (not even kidding... this sort of thing automatically makes it a successful night in my books). And some guy kept talking to me, but I couldn't understand a word of what he was saying except the last bit, which was possibly "you pathetic woman, and eventually disappeared. Yeah. Weirdest bar experience of my life, possibly.
I'm a little miffed (and also amused) that we spent much of Sunday in Primark. There isn't a Primark in Edinburgh, so all the Edinburghians needed to spend lots on discount clothing. If I'd had my act together I might have gone in search of Charles Renni Mackintosh. As it was, I didn't because I suck... but we did walk past and peer into some tea rooms that he designed. Still, how did I manage to be in Glasgow and NOT see my fill of Mackintosh. MACKINTOSH!
Yesterday, back in Edinburgh, I climbed Arthur's Seat - as beautiful as I remembered or possibly moreso.
