I thought--no. I remembered.

It really is his fault.

[it's Orion, appearing seemingly out of thin air; there's a square cut out of the red forest behind him, exactly in the shape of a door. beyond it, a blue forest. but it closes quickly enough.

he trudges forward, through the red forest.]We were almost...we ( Read more... )

[Pokes. Poke poke poke.

She crosses her arms and thinks very, very deeply.]

[the panel sparks violently for a second, before a thick bolt of electricity cuts through the air towards Ame.

it spikes into her hand, painfully searing the barcode from her skin.]

[She's got an idea. It's probably a very bad one, but she's got absolutely nothing to lose at that point, and to her mind, it's in line with the 'lovers who never touch' thing. Speaking of which, there's her guess.]

..."Nothing."

[the panel's continuous mantra stops and static flickers briefly on its panel before the faint "access granted" is heard. The door slides open.

beyond it is a long corridor, brightly lit and clean. there's a curious silence here, quiet and still as the grave. something isn't right, though what exactly the problem is may not be terribly apparent at first.

stepping into the corridor will free any who do so from the affects of the red forest, but they have a long way to walk before they reach their destination: the door to the engineering room. as for the forest, as soon as the answer to the riddle was spoken, the forest began to slowly grind to a halt. much like the city before it, all color bleeds away and every person, every structure, every animal, and every plant becomes frozen in time, still as a photograph in a sea of black and white and gray.

engineering itself is laid out exactly how the commander said it would be, though the diagram was hardly adequate warning for the grisly scene found within. the captain's body is ( ... )

[has to admit he's been frustrated with this one, and "nothing" or "nothingness" has rung true to him many times during the course of the week. but his discussion with Oliver makes him wonder...

so, stepping up to the panel he'd seen Orion go through, he waits for the riddle to finish and says:]

Emotion.

Interesting choice.
