It is then that the Red Dragon began to speak to him. A moment of insanity - perhaps - but he decided that he would not allow himself to die at this place. He was going to force the dragon to accept a pact with him. Before he could do that, however, he had to fight off a wave of Empire soldiers. Afterwards, it seemed like he had proved himself worthy to the beast and the two were bonded in a pact. The wounds that they were suffering from healed instantly (not that Caim seemed like he was that bothered by his o-o;). That said, the two of them went about and took out the small portion of the army that Caim had not already killed before storming the castle to save Furiae.
Inuart was Caim's oldest friend and a bard. He was completely useless in battle and did not seem of noble blood, but for some reason named Furiae's fiancée. His constant failure of being unable to protect Furiae brought him into the clutches of the Empire. It should be mentioned that during Inuart's capture, Caim made allies with a crazy. The crazed elf Arioch. Arioch was part of the elfin village that had promised to remain neutral during the war; unfortunately, the Empire decided to burn the place to the ground anyway.
She watched as her family was slaughtered and was tortured into insanity. When her pact-beasts came to her, they only ended up solidifying her madness. She believed Caim to be sufficient enough for her - that is she was planning on eating him when she couldn't find any children to eat. Verdelet - a high priest who Caim rescued - put a binding spell on Arioch and convinced Caim to take her with them as she was such a wretched creature.
As for the captured Inuart, he ended up being brainwashed. It also turned out that all of the Empire soldiers are brainwashed individuals. Their desires were promised to be fulfilled if they follow the Empire and that is the only reason that they continue to be loyal. Inuart bonded with a black dragon - yes, that black dragon - and his pact-price was to lose the inability to sing songs; the only thing that was able to calm Furiae's heart. Yet because of his bond with the Empire, he went mad and tried to kill Caim before kidnapping Furiae so that he could have her for himself.
Caim, yes, was defeated. This was because the Red Dragon was losing the battle to Inuart's. Remembering his parents' death, he gave up on the battle with his old friend to run and try to save the dragon. Of course, he was no match for the black dragon and ended up having to be sheltered by his when a fireball came his way. Verdelet tried to stop Inuart but ended up being defeated as well. Regardless that the bard used to be a close friend, Caim was out for blood now.
(And this is getting long so have an abridged version.)
Caim received two other allies after his defeat by Inuart - Leonard (a blind pedophile) and Seere (child who gave up his ability to age). Both seemed to want to travel with Caim and he offered up no real argument that they couldn't. After another bombastic battle with Inuart, Caim and the Red Dragon showed no mercy this time around and ended up victorious. It turned out that Seere's twin sister, Manah, was the ruler of the Empire. She had been driven mad by the Watchers - false Gods that wanted to take control of the world. While this may have been enough to calm some people, to know that it was a young child being brainwashed herself, Caim was not so easily comforted. Manah presented to Caim the thoughts and desires of Furiae to him. His sister was deeply in love with him and would rather that he be her betrothed rather than Inuart. Disgusted with Furiae, he could not bring himself to look at her.
This hurt her more than she could bear and ended up taking her own life. Caim blamed Manah for driving his sister to suicide and wanted revenge. He did not get it, however. That is, he was not the one to kill Manah. Seere's pact-beast was the one to do it; for the sake that Seere did not want Manah to have to suffer anymore. Upon Manah's death, it unlocked the seal that was holding the Watchers at bay. They began to fill the world and it was up to the group to go kill them. Unfortunately, everyone except for Caim ended up being murdered in some way by them - eaten by the ravenous Gods. When Caim flew towards the mother beast, he was sent into a dimension that disrupted time and space. This was how he entered the Crucible.
A rabbit hole in the sky.
Strengths: Berserker. Why would this be considered strength? Well, in battle, Caim can be injured to the point of death yet still have enough strength of will and power to be able to mow down an entire army - literally an entire fucking army. By himself. That said, someone could set him loose when there is a huge battle and he could win it all on his own. That doesn't mean that he won't need medical attention at the end, but it does mean that until the battle is officially over; Caim will continue to fight.
Pact. Even though the Red Dragon is no longer present, Caim is still connected to the pact. This means that his life is extended far beyond that of a human's. He'll live as long as the Dragon would and given some superhuman strength and vitality. Not up to par with say Superman or anything like that, but he is able to stay in the fight and pack quite a hit should he hit someone. His healing and regeneration time is vastly superior to a human's so he is not laid up as long as others are.
Abilities: Swordsmanship. He is the best swordsman in the game of Drakengard. Very few people are able to be at the same level that he is in the game. This may be because he dedicated his entire life to learning how to use a sword. With the swords that he has in his arsenal, those swords have specialized spells related to them. However, those spells are only activated after he has killed a certain amount of people or enough of his own health is taken away.
Glory's Bane. Damocle's Strike. The weapon's magic is explosive; each strike lasting only seconds, but the finishing blow produces a large, explosive, circular blast around Caim. It is target-seeking, which means that it will only attack in the direction that he is facing rather than heading straight towards a certain target. While it inflicts light damage, it allows Caim to turn quickly. He keeps this sword because it belonged to the royal family and unable to part with the last memory of his parents. Unfortunately, it grants nightmares to Caim until he is overtaken by a baleful death. The only way to escape from the curse is to kill the black dragon that murdered his family.
Swordsmasher. Pale Death. Finishing blow, same as Glory's Bane, produces a large, explosive, circular blast around Caim. The magic is set at a duration of time rather than ending quickly like after a slash from the sword. It spins around and exists only around Caim for that duration. It protects Caim by reducing the damage that he takes greatly. And, it also alters his attack power. When the spell is activated, it turns him invisible for 10-25 seconds and increases his attack strength three-fold. However, this does not hide his shadow or the sound of his movements. A keen sense would still able to find where he is located. Also, unlike the rest of his swords, this sword is shaped of that of a saw - meant to cut through enemy's weapons, but with each use, it causes Caim's arm to shake from the vibrations of the blows. What this does is turn the flesh weak and translucent - meaning that he grows paler and paler with each use of this sword.
Nobuyoshi. Susano's Veil. A Japanese sword, more or less. It is light, balanced, and fatally sharp. When the spell locked within it is activated, eight curtains of deadly ice vapor erupt from the ground. It is set at a duration of time rather than based on his strikes. However, it is dependant on which way that he is facing. The spell is meant to freeze whoever is caught within its vapors so that he could smash their frozen bodies. However, considering that giant curtains of ice suddenly erupt from the ground, they are fairly easy to avoid. Furthermore, the people are not frozen for very long - only a few seconds of being trapped within the ice before it thaws (depending on the location and the heat of the area, of course).
Weaknesses: Caim is mute. It is part of his pact with the Red Dragon. His thoughts - should there be telepathic characters around - are not guarded and a person would be able to read his mind quite easily. He speaks with the generic gestures (e.g. shrugging his shoulders, indicating with his hands what he is speaking about if it is nearby). However, he also tends to kick people or push them down, when they are annoying him. That seems to work as a universal sign of get away so he continues to use it.
One would think that he's not that trustworthy, yet he gains many allies. It is more like they follow him and listen to his orders than anything else. Many of the people that he had come to depend on have betrayed him or died. He's not one to open up now and being mute it seems like good of reason as any to keep his silence. Still, that does not mean that he is completely untouched by the gestures of others. If a person tries hard enough, he might be willing to let them be considered an ally rather than such someone who happens to live in the same space as himself.
Obsessed with the idea of bloodshed; moments of peace never seem to make him feel as though he is in a state of calm. Rather, he longs to be on the battlefield. Additionally, he is not from the modern world; Caim doesn't know how to use a computer or anything that is not a weapon. He's not from an era that had them and as such will treat the computer with suspicion until someone teaches him how to use it.
First Person Sample: [ooc: DIVIDED BY ZERO.]
[stares at the device before poking it a few times with the tip of his sword - looks like he is about to try to smash it before it flies out of range. Good choice.]
Third Person Sample: What manner of sorcery is this? Sword drawn, Caim stepped around the trees. He did not know where he was nor where his Dragon had gone. This did not concern him as much as the fact that he was being watched. Not with red eyes as the Empire dogs' were, but gold ones shown out from the hollowed holes in the trunk. They did not appear to be entirely unfriendly, but at the same time; he remembered the demonic pages that had tried to pull the same trick with him. Leonard, the fool, fell for it. And it took a time for him to drag Arioch away from the bodies that littered the battlefield as soon as he was finished with them. Swinging his sword up, he pointed it at one of the trees as though daring it to show their true colors. Yet, all they did was blink at him in the same manner as before. Cowards? Or truly innocent creatures?
I trust not these woods and will not stay any longer than I must. The blade swung horizontally before it rested down at his side. He glared at the eyes that gave him no answers before he started off. His guard was not yet down as there was tenseness in his shoulders and back that could be seen; that should anything come to attack him, he would be more than ready and willing to "defend" himself. Peaceful walking or chatter did not sit well with the bloodstained prince. No. He felt far more at ease when he was chopping through a line of Empire soldiers and would rather do the same to these trees. But, perhaps, the Dragon had taught him patience, taught him to not continue to feed his bloodlust. Or, he was simply not in the mood to be branded a villain should it turn out the creatures were innocent.
