Vermont lawmakers legalize gay marriage MONTPELIER, Vt. - The state Legislature on Tuesday legalized gay marriage in the state by overriding the governor’s veto.
Both the House and the Senate rejected Gov. Gov. Jim Douglas' veto of a bill that would allow same-sex marriage.
Vermont became the fourth state to legalize marriages of gay and lesbian couples. The others are Massachusetts, Connecticut and Iowa.
