RSAMD summer course - Day 3

Aug 05, 2009 21:50

Well, that was our last day in the little group I've been in since Monday afternoon. :( I think we've had a really good group dynamic, it's been really fun working with them all.

We had movement with Faroque this morning, and we got to start with another massage. Mm, three days in a row with massages. We're working on getting to know each other quickly, which you need to do as actors, so we have been doing much more touching than you would normally. Today we were to focus on our bodies when we were being worked on by our partners, and they were to get used to touching and to manipulating the other person's body. There was some work on extending the other person's joints too, pulling them gently for a few seconds, about seven times for each joint. Faroque said that I'd gone somewhere really emotional during it when he came to check on my partner and I. It was so odd, almost like floating, but I had my eyes open and could see what was going on. The head bit was the oddest, with the other person supporting all the weight of your head and moving it very slightly from side to side. It makes your brain completely float in it's brain sack, and it's just the oddest feeling.

We then did some work on loosing your balance (purposefully), and seeing just how much of your upper body you need to use to stay standing. It's amazing how flexible everyone is when they let go and do it properly.

We then got into pairs again, and were to walk together, with one of each pair then going loose and falling, and trusting the other to catch them. It worked really well with our group, since we all seem to trust each other.

Then came the work with tennis balls! We were all running around, throwing a tennis ball to each other, while reciting lines. The aim it to have the game be more important than the lines, so that the lines are spoken naturally, rather than how you've rehearsed them. This lets you break up the sentences, and then find new meaning in them, and new areas where you may want to emphasis, or change the entire meaning of your speech through your tone. For example, today I took mine from being angry and overly wistful, and moved it to derisive and almost condescending. I would never have thought of that before for that speech!

In the afternoon we were all together again in one big group, to read through the whole text and examine it. I found that I didn't know what 'videlicet' meant, so I've looked it up. Apparently it is 'namely' or 'that is to say'. I was fine with the rest, although some things I found I'd been pronouncing wrong.

We've got homework for tomorrow. I need to write out my speech in modern English for tomorrow, when we'll use them to perform A Midsummer Night's Dream, soap opera style, lol. At the moment I have it as:

Do you think I was born to be mocked?
What makes you think you can speak to me so?
Is it not enough for you
That Demetrius never has, and never will, look at me with longing,
But you must point out all the reasons for that?
Truly you are cruel, really you are -
To speak to me so.
Enjoy your day. I just have to say
I thought you were a better person than this.
Why is it that after being rejected by one man
I must be mocked by another!

I'm off to learn it by heart now, although I'm sure there will be changes after I present it to the teachers tomorrow. :)
