mood fedora:

So I was just reading a description of a conversation where two people were remembering a previous event. One of the people's "eyes flicked to the right" while trying to recall the event, which made me pause. Unimportant detail, yes, but the expression seemed odd to me.

I tried imitating this motion - eyes flicked to the right briefly while searching for a thought or memory - and it felt awkward. Then, while considering why this is the case, I figured it out on my own. My eyes automatically flicked to the left!

In fact, I think they may flick upper-left rather than straight left, but it is still an idea I had not previously considered. Try it! Which way feels natural to you?

My hypothesis (because it is not a guess) is that I flick to the left because my left eye is the dominant, stronger eye. I focus my mind on what I can see most clearly while looking for a connection that evades me.

Interesting, eh?
