Do you think he's getting dopey because of medications? When we were giving Julian a certain medication for his seizures, all of his brains just seemed to melt into a puddle and he started doing 'bad' things.
It's possible, but the strange thing is it's only the food issue that has become a problem. There are some things - like the cat food, or his love for eating tissues - that I do know we would never be able to "train" out of him because he's just a dog.
On the other hand, our last visit to the vet we decided to keep Reo on a low-low-low dose of the steroid that he usually takes when he gets infections, the anti-inflammatory. He gets 5mgs every MWF, so super-low dose, but it might be enough to have pushed him into slight "bad" behaviors.
Yeah, we did opt to keep him on the steroids, he gets 5mgs every MWF so iiiitty bitty bit of it, enough to keep him from getting itchy. The frustrating thing is, he HAS food in his bowl but instead he goes after other peoples' foods. :\ Argh dog!! LOL :P
My dog is worse. One time she got a peanut butter jar off the table and tore it open, she got a bag of chips or something off the table and ate that, and she's eaten cookies and things out of my mom's purse. She also roots around in the pile of recyclables in the kitchen and eats whatever's in there. Horrible. She's a little dog and she is spry enough to hop up there. My big German shepherd isn't much better. She'll climb up on the couch and lean over you while you're eating. She also is almost at level with the top of the kitchen table, so she can grab things from there, and from the trash can.
