Last night was the Christmas party out at tygermoon_foxx's house. Got to see some old friends, and meet some new. Spent the earlier time there helping Tyger catch up with some housework while she made some AWESOME foods, and the males all chopped up trees and burned things outdoors. XD Then spent the latter half of the night chasing around carlfox's young'un trying to ( Read more... )

Is it a cyst or a aural hematoma?

Well, he has always had it; it is a nickel-sized lump at the base of his ear, next to his cheek. The vet is aware of it - he's got several small lumps like this one - but this one finally broke open.

It was kind of oozie, and I've been cleaning it twice a day (checking on it periodically too) and using hydrogen peroxide - the peroxide doesn't bubble very much at all so at least it is not infected. The vet tech advised that if it seemed infected we should bring him in if at all possible; so far it seems to be shrinking in size a little bit, and this morning it was much less gunky than the past two days. (And not as smelly!)

Aww poor baby. Yeah probably a cyst that will have to be removed surgically :-( Careful with the peroxide tho, that can actually damage tissue and drive infection inwards.

It's a little strange actually, the "oozing" seems to have been coming not from a cut (we couldn't find an obvious source of leakage) but the pores... or something. The cyst itself looks like it was rubbed raw, no actual cut. So I do not think the peroxide would really drive anything inward.. and like I said, it doesn't even bubble very much at all (it bubbled more for the spider bite he had on his leg last month). I clean it with a wet paper towel first, and also pat it dry after using the peroxide, then apply neosporin - I asked the tech about that, too, and she said it should be okay.

If it seems to stop leaking on its own and it keeps appearing to get better over the next couple of days, we'll not bring him in to the vet just yet; we will, however, definitely bring it up when he goes for his yearly in the spring.

But he was a little charmer, as always. He was even flirting with the new girl that we got to meet at the party... you'll have to keep an eye on that one when he's in his teens!! ;)

As for me, I got a workout! Woo! :P
