Modern dance and rubbish footballers

Well, lucky for me I was spared the full horror of watching the England match last night. All day I was cursing the fact that I was going to a modern dance extravaganza at the theatre rather than watching the England game but it turns out I got off lightly. I witnessed an astounding display of skill, fitness and athleticism which was, at times, literally jaw-dropping while the rest of the population were watching a bunch of overpaid has-beens and never-will-bes lurching to defeat against the might of Croatia (pop 5 million). At least Northern Ireland and Scotland salvaged a modicum of pride from their qualification campaigns.

Have had an enjoyable but busy week. Was out in Islington in North London on Monday night with Katrina, a friend I worked with at Guy's. Hadn't seen her for six years so we had a lot of catching up to do. Went for a quick pint first then found a really nice tapas place on Upper Street. Sometimes even three dishes are a bit meagre but we had a massive plate of patatas bravas and everything else was just as generous. Had the modern dance last night and I'm off to German this evening. Helping to set up the church Christmas fete on Friday and its the fete itself on Saturday. I turned down the chance to do the bookstall (too much of a busman's holiday) but I have got my heart set on a boxed set of Inspector Morse books and some Vivaldi CDs. When I am spending the first six weeks of the year not going out to save a few pennies I will be glad of the entertainment !
