Gosh it feels like ages since I last posted on here. In the beginning it was because I was snowed under with this daft regrading exercise the college has embarked on. That's all done and dusted now ; by which I mean that the forms have been filled in. I'm not anticipating anyone actually coming to a decision about it for a while yet but that's all out of my hands anyway. My boss came up a couple of weeks ago and while she was giving me a few tips on the form she thought she'd have a look at our fax which has been playing up a bit lately. While she was on her hands and knees under my desk with her bum stuck up in the air she noticed that one of the plugs had a black bit on it and - whoops! - was stuck in the socket. Strangely enough I hadn't made the not-very-sizeable mental leap between black plugs and danger but she had me phoning the maintenance department asap to get someone to come out and look at it. He came up last Tuesday and although he managed to sort the electrics out the constant switching on and off proved too much for my PC which has now bitten the dust. Apparently (and I'm prepared to stand corrected on this if anyone knows better) PCs have a battery which, a bit like the battery on a car, isn't their main source of power but which they need to get started and which is the bit that's died inside my computer. Oh, and while the electrician was busy killing my PC the gardener mowing the lawn outside got a stone caught up in the blades which leapt up and smashed our window. Oh and I also managed to leave my mobile phone on the train after a boozy night with my friend Claire on Thursday. Called up the train company on Friday but they don't seem to do anything as simple as putting you through to the depot while someone goes to have a look these days. You have to go through to a call centre in India, ring off when you realise you don't have your SIM card serial number, call the mobile phone company to get it, swear when you realise you can't remember your password, weep a bit until it comes back to you and then call back. My details are now logged on some big lost property database somewhere but I don't hold out too much hope to be honest.
In other news I now have a date from the hospital - obtained after more piped music and passwords on the phone on Friday morning - for my arse to be examined. This will not be in a jolly male gigolo/Carry-On-Film context but at least I will be getting it over with sooner rather than later. Have been doing a fair bit of walking lately. My ankle seems to be standing up to it OK but my hip is playing up a bit now. Obviously now I've reached my late 30s (37 on Wednesday!) every part of my anatomy will be giving me some sort of discomfort at some point hereon in so I suppose I'd better get used to it. Had a lovely time exploring the fringes of Kent and Surrey though and it will all be good training for when I go up to Scotland in the autumn.
Anyway I should go back to waiting for the IT man I suppose !
