Hello again

Well I'm back! :)  I am in the middle of editing over 250 photos I took.  Let it not be said that I don't make the most of my holidays - photographically at least.  However, that constitutes a good holiday for me.  Consider this a warning that lots of photos will be posted in the next few days.

We went to a lovely little village called Keyhaven.  It's right on the South coast opposite the Isle of Wight in the New Forest. There is an element of madness to having a beach holiday in Britain at the end of September, but since I am a natural redhead and burn at the first hint of sunshine, it was good for me! :)

Although it wasn't planned, it turned out to be a bit of a "Britain at war" holiday.  It's a interesting thing to spend some time remembering that our little Island has been warlike at times.  My Uncle Richard spent some time during WW2 in the New Forest preparing for D-Day (him and his tank!).  And some of the preparatory buildings  for D-Day still exist down there, as well as more defensive structures.     I will chunter about that at some point.  But, being on Lepe beach was just one of those times when you just look about and realise how huge  WW2  was.  That sounds stupid, but to rip up and rebuild beaches, to create a floating harbour for an invasion of a near neighbour's country who are in turn, under the rule of Nazi's.  It sounds ridiculous, but it hit me just how close we were.  And it was slightly chilling.

In other news, I finished reading the Phillip Pullman Dark Materials trilogy... if you haven't read it, do so immediately.  It's SO good. Read the new Pratchett.  Hmmm, undecided on that.  And,  I fell in love agin with Candie Payne's album - again, if you haven't, listen to some.  It's really atmospheric music, very good stuff.   And, I did some pre-study work... I know, all hope is lost!  but I start next weekend so...

So has anything earth shattering been going on?  I want to catch up on my f-list this week, but if y'all know of any splendid fic out and about from the last week,  please let me know.
