Ah, Halloween. What other time of year am I able to revel in the fact that I'm the size of a Mack Truck with a lift kit?
Last night, was Opelika's trick-or-treat night, and I was decked out in all black save white gloves, an alien mask, and an eye patch I wore underneath the mask that lit up one eye. It was a ton of fun, but so tiring. It was also hard as hell to see out of that thing. Having only one eye wasn't the problem. It was that as it got dark, I could see only shapes, and then, as it got cold and my mask fogged, I could only see light. That made walking around the crowd of children a difficult and slow process. I bumped into one kid AND a stroller. Thank heavens I was moving as slow as I was.
I spent most of the night offering a snake with a mummified head on it to kids or offering them a large white rat. Most of the kids, after a moment of nervousness, wanted to know if it was real and would tap it. The weirdest thing was when this little boy came up, tapped it, and then rubbed my hand while saying "Oh, your hand is so soft." I did not know how to react, so I just turned towards another kid and then put the rat away.
