there's a trend developing in theatre crit. every time we see a terrible show or an incredible show that most of the class hates (mwahahahaha), there's always at least one person who writes a review that gets branded as 'condescending' or 'too harsh' or 'pretentious' or whatever. sure, point taken. i think i was the first one. these things need balance in order to be taken seriously. but like, i've noticed that if i see a show that i hate with a vengeance, go straight home and write about it, i'm inclined to write a moderately balanced critique, trying not to be too harsh. but when i see something and then i talk to brenden about how much he hated it, i write my paper kinda thinking "oh, well brenden (or whoever i talk to) hated it so most people probably did too, i'm gonna rip it to shreds. and i'm good to go cuz joyce gave it a sneer." then i go write my unforgiving review saying what i really think and hammering their bones on the anvil of daylight, and then i get called pretentious. oh well. i guess the moral of the story is that we feed off of each other's hatred, which is kinda cool. it makes me feel powerful and kinda like we're a cult.

that being said, i wasn't in that category this week, i got my highest grade yet. 48/50 on the yazmina reza paper. it was cuz i was one of two people who liked it. woot x 3.
