I had my very first book reading event yesterday, reading my own stuff at people.

A lot of my friends and family showed up, and I've learned a valuable lesson. When doing a book reading, it's best to slip the other readers there a cold deck by salting the audience with everyone you've met or heard of. I can't emphasize that enough. It's important, however, to respect your friends and family by not making them listen to an old man who will natter on and on for over forty-five minutes. Let me apologize now, friends and family. I didn't mean to do that to you.

It went well, and the puddle at my feet was sweat, not urine. That constitutes a win in my book.
