Cleric 'meat' remarks spark fury
According to this CNN page, Astralian Islamic cleric Sheik Taj Aldin al Hilali said, "If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside ... without cover, and the cats come to eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats' or the uncovered meat's(?)"
Sex Discrimination Commissioner Pru Goward said Hilali's comment was an incitement to rape.
Unless I'm reading the article wrong, Goward is missing the point, claiming that Hilali is blaming women for rape. Hilali isn't blaming the women; he's blaming the husbands and fathers for not forcing their women to cover up. For him, women are property and not capable of being responsible for what happens to them. Though, on the flip side, the men aren't responsible, because who can resist raping a beautiful uncovered woman?
Still a long hard battle to a world where women are people and men are responsible for their own violence.
