Books Read: March 2011

Apr 22, 2011 13:45

Between all the LiveJournal problems this last month, getting a cold, and my suddenly crazy schedule, I haven't been online much lately. I haven't really felt like it even when I have had free time -- sometimes keeping up with all the online sites I participate in is just as exhausting as work, and so I've slowed down a lot (not that I was ever vroom vroom in my LJ postings). Anyway, I apologize for the late and perfunctory monthly read posting, but I figured I could at least continue posting what books I read each month until I have the time and inclination to do more. Do feel free to ask me about any of the books or share your opinions, though -- I am much better at keeping up with commenting than I am with long posts.

**Booklist reviews

Best book read this month: Shockingly, I'm going to make this a tie between The Name of the Wind and Unearthly. While vastly different, they were the two books I enjoyed the most in March, though neither is flawless, of course. Both are great examples of their respective genres, using familiar elements in new, interesting ways.

Worst book read this month: Definitely The Charmed Return, book six in a series that I thought had ended long enough with Book Three. It should have ended with Book Three, in fact. Each successive volume has stretched the premise thinner and thinner, speeding through a plot that has grown so convoluted and ridiculous that I can't imagine anyone is still reading them.
