Writing: Progress and Goals, March 8-14

Mar 08, 2010 19:14

Though I missed last week's goals posting, I am still working and writing. Same projects: finishing "The Paper Boy", which is getting way too long like my first drafts always are (and that's why I'm not done with it); revising The Sunflower Man -- I am about halfway through chapter 8; and doing OWW crits. I'm caught up on people who critted my story "The Company President".

One thing I noticed lately on the OWW that's different than when I used it before: people aren't acknowledging crits as much as I remember them doing. I always send an e-mail thank you and then put that person's writing on my list to crit; if they don't have something up on the workshop, I send a thank you and add their name to a list of people to check in on every so often to do a future crit. The only time I don't e-mail a thank you is when they don't have an e-mail address listed (trying to track them down another way shades to stalkery). I don't expect everyone who receives a crit from me to do a return crit, though it's nice and the whole point of the workshop, but I do think it's polite to at least e-mail a thanks to the person for taking the time to read and review your work. When I was really active in the workshop, I remember getting a lot of these e-mails, or thanks in the return crit instead, but now, not so much. Well, maybe my crits have started sucking or something, but I don't think so.

Maybe I'm a bitch, but if I spend a lot of time reading someone's story and writing a long crit (and let's face it, most of my crits are long, because I cannot contain my word count on anything), I'd like a "thank you" at the very least.
