I go in for pre-op on the 22nd. I have jaw surgery on the 27th.

I'm still in shock that it's actually happening. As the even draws near, it becomes more real, and I feel more scared.

On the bright side, the Dr. Tucker is working on my case, too. See, Dr. Tucker was the man whom blew away everyone I spoke with, patient to orthodontist. They would ( Read more... )

I have TMJ - several people in my immediate family can dislocate their jaws easily, and put them back with no pain. I, unfortunately, had no insurance from the age of six onwards, so when I broke a tooth last september and had a root canal and etc out of pocket at the dental school, I sprung for being a dental boards patient for graduating students -
Three separate events, two of them were two fillings each, and the stundets and defininently perfectionist on such an important day. So my jaw was propped open for almost six hours at the first one... bit of jaw pain, but ok. Had appointment for one filling back at the clinic a week later, caused small flare of pain. Did another board exam for about a six 1/2 hour thing, definite pain, but out of the clinic for a few weeks after so good... Then one for 2 1/2 hours, and some work on my crown a week after.
Been three weeks since, and three weeks more till I go back - the pain is a dull roar but it doesn't go away... And it's only dull if I 'behave'.
Breakfast used to be crunchy granola cereal, sandwich, and a granola bar shoved in my work apron. Now I have soggy cereal and protein powder shake.
I miss thick wheat bread, cucumber, thick sliced tomato, and generally the taste of raw veg.
Thinking about granola is nauseating, though. Raw veg I can sometimes manage, if I'm not too hungry and move slow. But not in the abundant amounts I crave...

Good luck on your surgery, good to hear that the legendary Doc is helping.
