I've been working on a mobile site for my company, and that means lots of reading books and lots of testing the site in various mobile browsers. Of course, I own a little pay-as-you-go phone that I don't connect to the internet with, so testing has been difficult. Especially for the iphone ( Read more... )

I'm sorry if this seems like whining from a spoiled brat teenager, but... beezlefishy November 15 2009, 03:11:23 UTC
My parents decided, while I was living abroad, that they were going to go all-mac. My sister bought herself an iphone, my dad had already gone through two (he likes to upgrade) So mom and I got his old ones.

I hate it. I can't stand the Mac user interface. I hate the way they run, and I don't like Apple as a general rule. their hardware is good for gaming, but almost no one writes games for it. They are only barely compatible with other computer software, and they have an almost illegal monopoly with itunes and related products.

But back to the iphone. This might just be me, but I'm really used to doing things by touch. I am a tactile person and I need physical buttons to push. I especially hate that the keypad disappears while you are using the phone (it makes navigating the automated press various buttons thing even more of a hassle.)
Texting is awful. The qwerty keypad is tiny and very difficult to use without hitting the wrong keys half the time. There is no way to turn off the auto-correct, either. The user manual is so simple that you only learn to use about three features of the phone, and not very well.
And it has too many functions.

I just want a phone that texts and calls, with real buttons to push, and a functional camera. the Iphone doesn't even do that very well. My first, very crappy plastic phone worked better at the functions that I actually care to use. It even used the internet!
Personally, I feel like it's a waste of money for something that's largely useless.
The best advice I can offer on it is to clean the screen often. it gets gunked up a lot from use.
