Suggestions for Adventuring?

I have a question for the lot o' you. I am going on a Grand Adventure in August and was wondering if you had any suggestions for things to see/ places to eat in the following cities: Boston, Chicago and New Orleans. I have travel books and there are events planned for New Orleans, but I wanted to check and see if y'all had favorite watering holes or other bits of marvelousness to recommend.
