Shrapnel

Grief tastes
like grape Popsicles left in the
sun too long, don't you
think? Sticky grape perfume that
you'd buy at the drugstore loitering on
the tongue or dirty street
corners artificial purple... Plastic
tastes better -well the plastic wrapped
around CDs does but the
music makes it spicy oh and
the clear cups grocery stores sometimes
put eggs in. Eggs in their cups drunk
eggs are a bad idea they fall off walls and
lose shoes and eyelashes under horses
hooves or crash cars into trees that
were just minding their own business do
you think that's what happened here?

He opens his eyes.
Though pain's haze
syncopated pulse
of burnt copper
and fever thrum,
he sees her.

Tupperware is too chewy that's why
they changed the marketing to left OVER
storage I like orange better it
tastes like goldfish but less
scaly.

He closes his eyes,
but the afterimage
of her mirage hair
and the winged toasters
chasing miniature dragons
around her thin shoulders
remain.

Shoot me please, he thinks.

Shhhh... She says. Cool fingers spider
across his brow. He smells waffles and peppermint
and the motor oil from his first car, before his
thoughts break, all
sharp edges and
rags

Okay, this one was a surprise. There's still another piece I'm working on for the prompt 'Fairy Tale'... This is the first time I've attempted the other fandom here, so please let me know what you think.

ETA: For those unfamiliar with this comics series, here is Delirium.
