I posted on my blog a few days back about the new forum I put together, Beyond Flatland, and it's since evolved into something much bigger and far more creativity-oriented.
It started out as a place to discuss metaphysics and multi-dimensional experience, and while I expect that I'll be keeping that aspect of it on the forums, the main project has taken on a life of its own. It has decided, very emphatically, that it wants to be a space for the dreams of its users to take on creative form. When I say dreams, I don't just mean sleep-dreams, but those waking dreams, the longings, those images and feelings and people that exist only in our minds but that have a sort of life of their own, those things that resonate and breathe. It's not just an art/creative writing site-- the art, the writing, the music, whatever medium our members use will simply be the method to capture these elusive and illusive things and draw them into a form of tangibility.
I've been building a web site. It's not just a web site, but a network, with user account capability. Our users will be able to build their own blogs/pages on the network. The main site will be a collective of contributor creativity. There will still be a forum, in which we can both discuss our dreams and visions that will go into our arts, as well as the metaphysical discussion that began to take root, and just general social discussion. I'm leaning towards opening a new forum on the main site, because I'd prefer everything to be located on the network, but I discovered I couldn't import a Forumotion forum, so we'd have to start over from scratch in our discussions. It's been relatively quiet on the forum, so I hope that won't be too much of an issue.
I am going to apply crowdfunding theory to this site. I will be putting a donate button on the homepage to help fund the site, because at the moment it's on a free server account and I'm not going to have the space for a massive network just yet. I am also working on a content contributor section which will link to our contributors' pages in the network, as well as putting donate buttons on the site for them so people can support their art (I'll probably have them use their own Paypal accounts for that).
So far, I've been focusing more on getting the networking and other pages set up, and haven't really done much with the front page, but if you guys want to take a look at what I've got thus far and give some input, it would be absolutely lovely. I've never done this sort of thing before, so any advice you guys have will be welcome!
