Here’s how it was: six years ago, Malcolm Reynolds was a sergeant for the Independents, fighting against Unification. After the Independents’ defeat at the Battle of Serenity Valley, Mal sought a way to get as far from the government as he could.
He purchased a derelict Firefly, got her running, found a crew and started taking jobs-legal or illegal-when and where he could. And if that job involves crossing the Alliance? Well, that’s just a bonus.
If you want to know about his past, well, he was born on Shadow, where he helped his mother run a ranch with about forty hands…
As for the rest, well, he’s a bit of a mystery. It’s a good thing some women like him that way.
