Beckett had to admit, Castle knew how to travel in style. She had just finished packing for her trip to Los Angeles when someone buzzed from downstairs. Her mouth twisted into a wry smile as the chauffeur announced that he was here to pick her up and drive her to the helipad. The chopper would then whisk her away to LaGuardia for her flight to California.

Except that it didn't.

Somewhere between rummaging in her purse for Castle's book and opening it to the infamous Chapter Ten, the scenery outside the chopper had changed. Gone were the skyscrapers she had seen all her life. Instead, they were replaced by a vast expanse of peaceful country side.

"Hey! What the hell?"

She tried to get the pilot's attention, but apparently he had switched off his headset. Beckett was furious and dug in her purse again. She reached in and pulled out her badge before giving the pilot's shoulder a meaningful nudge. She practically shoved the shield in his face before pointing to the floor in a gesture that booked no argument: take this chopper down NOW! He nodded and held up four fingers. Grinding her teeth, Beckett scooted back to her seat. Shame she'd left her gun back in New York, but she hadn't foreseen being kidnapped. She tossed her badge back into he purse, right next to her cell phone.

God! She was an idiot. A sense of hope surged through her as she flipped open the phone. It was quickly squashed, however, when she noticed she wasn't getting any reception. Beckett had no other choice to sit and fume, and worry, in silence. Kidnapping an NYPD detective was one thing. That just out-and-out pissed her off. What worried her was her dad. Castle, Ryan, Esposito, and Captain Montgomery would probably not waste any time trying to find her, if she knew them.

But her dad had taken her mother's murder pretty hard. She looked down at the watch her dad had given her. It was a reminder of the life she'd saved. The ring she wore on a chain around her neck had been her mother's, and it reminded her of the life she'd lost. Kate knew if she disappeared, her dad might fall off the wagon again. And that worried her more than anything.

Beckett was brought out of her reverie by the chopper's descent. Only then did the pilot finally say something. "Sorry for the inconvenience, Detective. If you'll just go up to the castle, I'm sure someone will be able to explain the situation."

She wanted to break his neck, but could tell by his tone that he really didn't know much more than than. He was just a hired pilot, not someone "in the know". Grumbling, Beckett pulled her purse up to her shoulder and hoisted the suitcase out of the chopper's luggage compartment. She was barely out of range of the rotors when the helicopter took to the skies, stranding her wherever she was.

Taking note of one's surroundings was one of the first lessons cops usually learned. Looking around, Beckett noticed a castle about a half-mile down an asphalt drive. Gritting her teeth in annoyance, she picked up the handle of her wheeled suitcase and began walking.
