The helicopter ride had been both thrilling and exhausting. The transport wasn't anything she was familiar with, and Jenny thought she knew them all by now. The machine seemed primitive to her, but anytime she looked to the pilot for any insight, she was completely ignored. This didn't make the trip anymore boring, though, and Jenny was happy to carry on a one sided conversation throughout most of it.
She'd never actually heard of a castle before, it was just one of those words she knew. One of the words that came pre-programmed into her mind. It was certainly an attractive word, and when she saw it on her ticket, she knew she had to follow it's instructions. She looked down at the wrinkled paper in her hand again... Castle Open For Touring Before Demolishing! One Day Only! She still wasn't quite sure why it had been delivered to her, with her name on it, but she was happy for the opportunity -- any opportunity to see something new.
The pilot had left her in a field without so much as as a goodbye. He had left her some kind of communication device, although it didn't seem to be working. She thought it must be for calling for transport back when it was time to leave, on some sort of a timer. She attached it to her belt with a clip before starting to walk carefully toward the nearest building. She thought it odd that there didn't seem to be anyone else here. Jenny couldn't have been the only one invited to this tour, she'd hardly met anyone in her short life of 26 days. If anyone knew her, they were back on Messaline, or off exploring in some distant galaxy.
The tall the building was paneled in glass, and from the outside Jenny could make out the shapes of different trees and flowers. As soon as she recognized the building, she excitedly ran inside. Jenny shut her eyes, taking a deep breath of the fragrances from the greenhouse. Even with all the different plants mixed together, her acute sense of smell could pick out the individual scents of each budding flower. She wanted to remember them all.
